I would think that if solder would work then
old timers would have used it.
you know that lead works thats why some old
customs were refered to as "LEAD SLEDS"
you might just want to go with lead and not
worry about 225 pieces of painted tin falling
out
there are very few body men left that know
how to work with lead
there was a show on the Discovery Channel
jesse james 53 or 54 chev where a master used
lead to french in some parts - the rest of the car was done with bondo
just a thought
you might also try a sample and run it thru
the processes (strip & paint) to see what happens
