The differnce is between the non syncro transmissions and the NP420 transmissions that were found on 56 and later trucks. difference in the handle itself is in the serated dog at the bottom of the handle. It is hardened and would be difficult to drill to make it work. There is also diffences in the mounting bracket for the piviot that the e Brake and transfer cases are attached to.
