I tend to like new manufacture rubber though. And I like to put new "shoes" all around when I do...
Wasn't part of the reason for the switch to the metric id system to provide a more accurate sizing label??
ie: the 245/75-16 label that shows the cross section width and sidewall height ratio instead of the older system that just showed nominal width with an assumed 100 ratio (that was not always the case...).
Anyway, a good set of tire manufacturer data books will show what the tire sizes actually are when mounted on an approved rim and inflated to the recomended pressure.
