Have you ever looked at your brass gear?

My M37 has a perfectly good looking winch that appears to work fine but I know that the first time I try to take a good hard pull on it, I'll strip the gear. When I got the truck I opened the drain plug and about a cup of water and bronze powder drained out. I looked inside and all the teeth were worn town to knife-edges. Nobody had bothered putting oil in it for years and supposedly it had been used with an A-frame to set up circus tents at the Puylallup fair for a long time. Yours might have been in similar condition. If the drum free-wheels, either the dog clutch is broken (which you can easily see from outside) or the gear is stripped. Can't be anything else. And if you find a good deal on gears, let me know.
