Although your Ram has a towing capacity of 245% of its weight, the owners manual for my 1973 W200 states "Trailer weight should not exceed approximately 75% of the loaded truck weight". That means 3351 based upon the unladen weight (4468), 4125 based upon its empty weight (5500) and 6000 on its gross weight (8000). New vehicles have a much higher towing rating than older ones, any idea why?. My son's 1989 Cherokee with the 4.0 I-6 has a towing rating of 5000. In addition to the engine, gearing and of course, brakes and equalizer hitch, some modifications to the frame may be required if you wanted to go to 10,000.
