Wow! Those sound like great adventures. You'd think they must have had a lot of paitience pulling that trailer with a 230, but I suppose slow and easy was the only safe way to do it. And, like MoparNorm said, the 230 has more torque than a lot of motors of the day.
I wish I had some photos of my grandparents towing the trailer they lived in behind their '37 Pontiac. All I can offer is this photo of Rifle Falls on the other side of the Grand Hogback from Grand Mesa.
