A lot like Dave Mahr's incident below, there was one in Denver last summer where a 15 year old, mentally handicapped boy was shot to death by the cops. The family had called the cops and when they got there he was threatening family with a knife. When he saw the cops he charged at them and one shot him fatally. This all took place outside on the street so there was no "surprise" factor. Family sued and won over a million in compensatory damages. The big argument was how come a full-grown, trained, police officer couldn't overcome a 15-year old with out deadly force. Good question. I went through some primary police training when I was in the Coast Guard and the thing that was the hardest was the "Shoot - Don't Shoot" course.
