Pinnion Nut and seal?

When putting in a new pinnion seal in how tight do you go with the nut? tighten and back off 1/4 turn??? Can somebody give me a little help , what is the proper procedure? This is on an M37. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Doug Boeve
