I'm driving a M1009 Blazer these days. It needs glowplugs or it won't start- even after it's only been 2 minutes since shutdown. I think its because it has a pre-chamber- a steel 'cap' over the injector/glow plug area. My guess is the pre-chamber takes a while to get hot so it needs some glow. Why use a prechamber? Because it stays hot too, and gives better ingition characterisitcs? like cleaner burning? but if you turbo the additional air causes more heat, no need for pre-chamber?

Your mileage may vary, lots.....
