I teach mechanics and we pull about one engine each month. Which must mean I am getting close to 300 engine pulls. Here is some common problems

(1) Double check that you have all the bolts out.

(2)place a floor jack under the trans and adjust the trans so that it is parellel to the engine, (look at the bottom of both pans )

(3) GENTLY use a pry bar to wiggle the two assembles apart.

(4) You got the inspection cover off ?

Most often there is one bolt left in place, but I have seen corrosion on the dowel pins and damaged splines that will not let the friction plate slide off. If this is the case just back off the pressure plate bolts which will free it from the flywheel.

Let me know what worked.

Bruce

I got a bored out 225 with headers and a 390 4 barrel turned side ways in my 26 Chrysler. It goes like stink, and sounds like a flat head.
