I have heard that some are better then others. Yes, you get what you pay for.
Some require you to be very near the vehicle and/or a good straight line shot to the reciever antenna, others you can be far away.
Another "potential problem" is how the windshield slope works against the reciever antenna. Usually adjustment is all that is needed.
