As you describe the PW, it sounds like it will need quite a bit of work to bring it back. I believe the outstanding question you must answer is 'How much of the work can I do my self'. Do you have a good place to work, welder, access to steel, knowledge in sheet metal work. If these questions can be answered yes, Then I would let them make the first step in what is the asking price. If you answer No to the above questions, then you need to be aware you can sink huge bucks having the work done for you.

Anything can be rebuilt/reconstructed/restored, its either your time and some money, or someone elses time and a lot of money.

Since for all purposes, the PW is just sitting in the field going to waste, you may be surprised how little they may want for it...or it may go the other way that its not for sale or they want a kings ransome for it.

Let them set a price, then you can try to get the price down. You might offer $1000 where they only really wanted $500.
