The newer 518`s and 618`s are basically 727`s with OD added and a different torque converter. I rebuilt my 618 and it had the same clutches as the 518. I went back with the heavy duty rebuild kit from Suncoast ($425)and ATS`s converter($1400) in my 97 3500 diesel with approximately 300hp. For the performance difference pulling a trailer, it is awesome. If you use the Valvoline Max Life(part # 324)fluid it does better in any transmission. Its equivalent to ATF+4 and works for Chrysler,F*rd or Ch*vy
