Progressive power steering is accomplished simply by using a 2 cardan shaft in the steering shaft. The 2 joints are about 45 degrees out of phase and assembled with the minimum leverage straight ahead, thus maximum leverage is at 90 degrees of wheel rotation. I've got one of the shafts in my junkbox- I used a constant velocity joint in my cammand car, a rag joint. Rag joints are one example of 'outdated technology' long superceded by the Detroit ujoint.....
