I recently picked up three used 30 amp 24 to 12 volt regulated converters from a local scrap yard. Cost $25 each. I pulled them out of some scrap railroad equipment. It turns out that a lot of railroad stuff is 24 volts. Grabbed some nice lights,etc while I was at it. I don't know how common scap railroad equipment is. The local scrap yard has since cut most of it up and sent it to the local Timken bearing mill.
