Exactly my point. Someone choose the 218/230 and here 50 years later she is still working hard. It was a great choice.

So was the choice on gearing.

During the war, steel was scarce so I assume that influenced that decision, but was there another reason besides steel shortages like they wanted a nailable surface for securing loads, or something like that.

So much of what they did, and the solutions they choose became decisions done so correctly. The design became bulletproof.

Ever think about why they designed the truck with the runningboards and a narrower cab? Even more basic, why is it built with flat(cycle)fenders? Where is the rear bumper?
