At that time the dodge 230 was the MOST powerful light duty truck engine available. More horsepower than Ford, GM, International, Study, anyone...
In the late WW 2 WC 51/52s wood was used to save on metal at the end of the war. The bottom of every old pickup bed I have seen was wood untill the sixties
