Regarding Adaware, SpyBot, SpywareBlaster, these are all good and effective freeware programs. Spyware Blaster runs a shield to prevent bad downloads of stuff onto your computer in the first place.
The problem is, even if you just now installed the program, whichever one of these, YOU NEED TO IMMEDIATELY GO AND UPDATE!
You're downloading the basic program as designed, but piles of definition files have been added since this stuff was built, so you MUST go get the latest definition files. You also must update at least weekly for the latest file updates of the latest bad nasties out there.
If you do this these programs can work for you; but if you don't immediately and continuously update then you're not even giving them a fighting chance to work for you properly! I'm not trying to pick a fight, but I use these programs and have had no problems for about 10 years so far....
