It is a seat of the pants judgment, but I have in many instances not turned a drum entirely clean, leaving score lines, yet the bulk of the drum's surface was properly machined. Our dilemma is that the drums are so rare, and good used ones are hard to find.

I still wish that someone would reproduce the drums. Whether disc conversions are common or not, there are a lot of people who want these drums.

Also, before you leave your drums with any, typical machine shop, you had better have an earnest talk about how rare these drums are. Otherwise, their habit is to turn them until they are clean and then say, oh, too bad, they are oversized. And walk away.

At that point I might be tempted to beat the guy to death with the arbor out of his very own brake lathe....
