Trying to regear a Dana 60 front axle for my truck. I've got the right carrier, gears, bearings, etc., just need help on a tool. While trying to pull the carrier bearings off my spare, unused carrier, I managed to scar up the flat part where the shims locate pretty badly on the ring gear end. Was able to turn my bearing splitter (Snap On CJ-951) over with the flat side up to keep from tearing up the side away from the gear, but it won't fit under the bearing on the gear side in that position. Am I doing something wrong? Or is there another tool I can buy reasonably that will let me do both ends without screwing anything up? Do I just need a smaller splitter? Any help that anyone can provide will be greatly appreciated, as right now I am stuck and can't do any more for fear of damaging the carrier that I need. Thanks in advance, Morpar.
