Rick,
Thats one point and opinion. What about smokers, overeaters, unprotected sex and a hundred other situations that lead to death
everyday? What will be next , monitors implanted that record what we eat, smoke , have sex with and a hundred other things we take for granted as a unalienable right and freedom to decide for ourself?
I think some things can and should be a manditory safety law imposed for childrens safety but, as an adult, I HIGHLY resent government/insurance companies telling me and forcing me by threat of prosecution or fine that I must do this or that for my own safety. Why are not those overweight and/or smokers not prosecuted for their action when they suffer a heart attack (and don't die) as anyone who tries to end their own life can and sometimes are, how can any one government legislate that it is a crime if I try to take my own life ? Why are smokers and overeaters allowed to live a unsafe lifestyle yet we are punished for driving without wearing a seatbelt or helmet ?
I feel if one does not take safety precautions for their own safety such as wearing a seatbelt or helmet, then that their business but, the insurance companies should not be responsible to pay for death or injury if the operator did not use safety items! That way personal freedom is retained but the insurance companies are not liable for someones foolishness or stupidy. Also, No life insurance would have to be paid when no safety was in use in a vehicle, now thats fair!
