Hey Tom,
I used to live in Leadville back in 80-81 and worked at the climax mine. I lived in the old 1892 house owned by a (then 70+) Mr. Hockett, The old 3-story house that sat between the fire station and city hall. This old house used coal to power the steam heating system (radiators). As resident maint. - man,for the three apartments,1-2-3 story,it was my job to drive north once a month for a load of coal. The first trip I was accompanied by Mr. Hockett who showed the way and pointed out history along the way. As We came off a Mt. looking down into a valley, I saw the remains of structure foundations in the deep valley. I was told they were the remains of some old military camp? Any way there in Leadville, within 75ft. of my back door sat a mint condition PW brush/fire truck with only 1265 mi. and mint interior that was bought by a fellow in Michigan. The world is smaller than we realize ! My 1st WM300 was shipped back from Panama and was used on the Panama canal by the army crop. of engineers, someone here on the forum might have been stationed there and even driven it ! Now if anyone can piece the puzzle together, they are doing better than Old Jack Daniels and I ! Proper english is very important when ratting! Hic!
