There should be no reason for Norton to block your Internet access. There should be some settings (I don't have a copy in front of me to look at) that you can tweak to allow you to access the Internet. However, since it's a 60 day trial anyway and you'll have to purchase it soon, you might consider a hardware firewall (such as a Linksys or Netgear). Much less of a hassle with setup, and much less overhead on your PC. Plus any intrusion is stopped before it gets to your PC, not on the PC.

Price of hardware firewall is about the same as the Norton Internet Security suite.

If you're set on the Norton as an antivirus solution, you can purchase OEM copies of NAV on Ebay for about 10 bucks.
