I don't think Mr. Davis meant Ugly. I do however ,think the word homely applies. Viewed with objectivity the trucks we've come to respect and in some cases love, are not the pinnacle of aesthetic design . That being said there were even less attractive contemporary vehicles for sale . The International line was, to be charitable;unencumbered by style. That being said however it's important to remember why these trucks were sold in such great numbers. They did the job you asked them to do. I'm sure Norm has better numbers than I do, I'm simply going off of memory. It seems to me every government agency, state, federal and military bought Dodges to do the "mule work".
Crawl Trans here in California and just about every D.O.T I ever encountered had thousands of them. And when they were done with them, Dodge trucks always brought a higher price at the auction block.
The true beauty of these trucks, was that they held their resale value and worked hard. It is a testament to their reliability that there are always fewer Dodge trucks in the classifieds than any other brand. People keep these trucks and wear them out. Not because they are pretty ,but because they do the job they were intended to.
What's your opinion?
