Don't use the telephone for any official business. Use paper, ink, and a stamp.

Don't take any suggestions, instructions, or threats over the telephone. Wait until you see them in writing.

Write down everything that has occurred with regard to this truck, using your best guess, if the dates are fuzzy. Write down the names of all the players, including the Sheriff's name who contacted you, and his telephone number.

Write down the VIN of your truck. Take your written record with you and visit, in person, the nearest law enforcement station, whether it be the Sheriff, state police, local police, etc. Ask them to run the VIN in the NCIC computer. (National Crime Information Computer) and in your state's stolen vehicle data base. See if the truck has, indeed, been reported stolen.

It sounds like you have been / are the victim of a scam. Perhaps the seller had second thoughts, and this is his way of getting the truck back?

The whole situation smells of fish.

Keep us posted, please, of any developments. There are many good people on this forum, withh many diverse talents. We can help.

Arthur
