Ah but that little air bubble that keeps going up the hose, you know the one ,you pump and the air bubble goes down and you take your foot off the petal and it travels up the hose, sometimes even farther than when you started. That is what the one way valve is for. It will not let air back in.
This also works for when your wife brings you a beer and she kicks your bottle of fluid over.
