While nothing is a panacea, we have two dogs. One is a doberman. He is gentle like most dobies, but the average person is scared to death of them, particularly low lifes. We live in the boondocs on a dead end road, but have never had any theft while we had the dogs. I have the invisible fence system over 5 acres on my property, so the dogs never leave yet have freedom to patrol the whole area around the house and sheds. The next best thing would be motion cameras but they are not a deterrent and occasionally have a fuzzy image (we have them at the office).
