If you don't need the overdrive, I'd recommend the older 3052. It's not only usually cheaper (not that the 3053s are expensive at $125), since it's not good with the multifuel diesels and hence isn't as popular, but it has a more even spacing between gears. The 3053 was kind of a hack, in my opinion. It has too big a gap between 3rd and 4th (5th is overdrive). I'm always wishing 4th was a bit lower. The 3052 is more "rational". I've got a 52 Reo gasser pole-setting truck (front and rear winch) I'll be parting out at some point, but not this year.
