For a description of the setup that I am using (used the bracket of an older 2.5 ton truck although a civilian Chevy 1.5 ton of the same vintage is the same...) that puts the mirror just in front of the jerry can where you can see it throught the swept area of the windshield and don't have to drill holes to mount it is located at:
