Had the same question about 6 mo ago. Don't know where you are located. How are the old farmer junk yards supply around you. I am running a NP 540 5 speed truck trans. I talk to enough guys to find o/d gears for that trans. I have just a little 283 in mine. I am sure it would run hwy speeds with no problem. I run stock gears and 37 in tires. Good luck!
