If you are thinking about the split deck trailers, they make an 18+4 and a 16+4. 18 being the tilting section and 4 being the fixed section of deck at the front. The problem with the shorter tilting section is the weight of the front of the truck will pass the pivot point before the rear wheels are on the trailer causing the bed to tip prematurely. Will's trailer has a hydraulic jack under it so he can control when it tips.
The extra length wasnt much more $ and it isnt a problem having a couple of extra feet.
