Rear diff swap... 1/2 ton WC for a M37 or WW2 3/4 tonner dif

I got an early 1/2 ton military Wc-12 with the notoriously weak rear differential assembly.

I am wanting to run larger diameter wheels/tires, and want to make sure the trucks rear diff is up to the task.

Now, I know this has been done, but before I buy the parts, want to hear from someone who has done this.

Can I bolt into my 1/2 ton housing a later model (Read "stronger") differential unit assembly. Say a ww2 3/4 ton assembly or an M37 diferential? Are either assembly capable of bolting into the 1/2 tons rear housing?

If so, is there any modifications required to fit it into the housing.

second, do the larger diameter 3/4 ton WW2 Dodge rear axles fit into the 1/2 ton rear housing with any problems.
Will these axle shafts fit OK or are they too lon or too short?

Lastly, I have a line on a M37 rear differential assembly, complete with 4:89 gears to match my WC original front gear ratio.

I know the M37 used offset housings, meaning two different sized axle shafts, so thats of no use.

Do the WW2 3/4 ton shaft fit into the M37 carrier??

thanks all...

Dave
