I been needing to take the almost 4 hour drive to Alpena to grab up my 1947 WDX I bought quite a while ago. I have my '91 W250 Cummins Truck, and I could have used my neighbors Tri-Axle trailer to haul it with. Well my truck is not quite up to snuff, as it needs a steering box. some electrical work, and brake work. The trailer is really stout, but has mobile home axles (the weak point) and dry rotted mobile home tires, no brakes and is not properly plated. I could take enuff backroads up there to creep along at 45 MPH no problem...But I really really REALLY did not want to go that route. Well, I been racking my brain how to get the truck home, and a guy who lives by Traverse City wants to buy a Ford 1 ton Dually 4X4 from me. Well, as part of the deal, He is going to swing by Alpena to grab up my truck, bring it on down, and get his truck and bring it up. Pretty smooth how I worked that, right? And he is doing it cheaper than I could have bought a steering box for my truck, and make my neighbors trailer safe. I still use my truck for local runs, hauling junk car hulks to the scrap yard and for short steel etc, and I do plan to fix it up, BUT, my friend I am buying the WDX from had to get it out of there ASAP, so I had to take the quickest route on this. So now the beast comes home! I have plans to buy one more toy, and then I am calling the toy buying quits for a long long time. I need to get a house built and a pole barn built to work on and store stuff in. God Bless, and please pray for our troops!
