While not the first SUV (that would be the Willys Overland)it was the first attempt by AMC to offer a downsized Wagoneer type vehicle on the Jeep platform. I went to buy one in 1981, and the Full Sized Cherokee next to it was cheaper, so I went home with the Cherokee. The Eagle was very popular with the ski crowd and mountain dwellers. In that condition it would be a nice vehicle.
