WillyN's post made me want to ask this. I will be coming into some profit sharing money from work in about a month. I too am thinking of getting a wire feed welder, however my needs are less intense than Willy's. I am looking for a welder that operates on general house current, is gasless, and can weld maybe 3/8ths thick metal. I want it for general repairs to my M37, and maybe some odd jobs here and there. The tractor supply store near me has a Hobart that fits my needs(don't know the model number however), and goes for less than $500.00. Is Hobart one of the better units?
