Military off the shelf Trucks

It seems that after the WC models came the M37's,then the M715 Kaiser jeeps,then the Dodge M880 model,then the CUCV Chevrolet trucks all in the 1 ton range/Capacity and now I guess the Hummer is the current Military 1 ton truck of choice. My question is how does the Chevrolet Diesel truck perform as a good 4WD work truck? They appear to be quite abundant and reasonable for the asking. Really can't belive I'm asking this as I am not a big fan of Chevrolet or their Diesels, but I am curious about these trucks.(Dodge content: Have my WC 62 mothballed for the Winter, hurry up Spring!)
