Got a question for the guys that use thier trucks. I purchased a 48' powerwagon from a niegbhor a few months back. I've wanted one for a long long time. Since I got it I've tried to make it as reliable as possible. I've replaced the mastercylinder got the brakes working good changed all the gearbox oils replaced all the bearings and seals in the trasnfer case, checked the u-joints repacked the wheelbearings checked both pinions for slop in the bearings re-bushed and sealed the front axle (except for the pinion seal, which is sitting on the bench in a bag waiting for installation) rebuilt the carb put a new haed gasket on the motor (it blew out right after I bought it)had the head checked for trueness by the local napa machinist. Filled the winch and tested it under a pretty good load.
My question is, hunting season is three weeks away, and I like to hunt on the back side of a mountain nearby. I would like to drive the old truck for the one week season. what kind of tools, parts, equipment should a guy carry?? And what else should I replace before I leave?? the only problems I've encountered with it so far, are a blown head gasket, and burned points, it has run resonably well for the approximate 150 miles I've put on it. But I've seen stranded vehicles get destroyed by weather and vandals in a very short time. I can't really rely on other people, as I've only seen two others up there in the last two seasons. Town and my other pickup would only be approx. 18 miles away and I would have my atv with me but I don't want to leave it even for that long (I'm very attached to it).Last year I encountered roughly 36 inches of snow, which fell overnight. All travel would be on gravel or paved roads.
