hello:

I imagine you are refering '73-79 Ford F-250 Hi Boy, particularly a 73-76 as you said it had a 390. Unfortunatly, I know more about these trucks as Id care to admit. I have a '77 F-250 Hi Boy outback as well as SEVERAL Other 73-79 Ford trucks. These trucks used to get stolen very often, because you can pop the hood, and start one with a 3 feet chunck of wire and a couple of screw drivers. it is also super easy to change the in-dash ignition switch out as well. These trucks are very very easy to change the VIN numbers on, as they are on the drivers side door. Heck you could change the truck's identity by changing drivers doors, or else by changing the VIN Tag.... Sorry to hear of your loss, but if you dont mind me asking, how did you know it was your particular truck? I hope you can get it back maybe and settle things without too much bloodshed.
