Well, after a couple of short trips to check out the re-assembly of the new seal and bearing on the shaft for the rear drive shaft yoke I know I have a problem.

The first trip late last Sunday, after a short distance I jumped under and felt the rear lower bearing housing, and it was quite warm, I was sure I had a problem. As there were no shims between the two bearings, just the collar, I tightened the yoke nut down good and tight, and thought I might have it too tight. So last night I backed the nut off a little and took the truck out again this morning between showers, and again it got quite warm.

So back under I went and this time I decided to leave the rear drive shaft off, and loosen the bolt a little more and run the engine in the garage and see if it got warm.

It did, so then I drained the fresh oil and pulled the yoke off. The bearing is apparently spinning on the shaft. There was evidence of this with the old bearing, but had attributed it to the yoke not being tight enough. The new bearing showed evidence where it mates to the yoke of spinning and when I hold the bearing tight with the end of a screw driver of needle nose pliers I can spin the shaft and the bearing spins on the shaft.

I had used 50% of 90-140W gear oil and 50% Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer (http://www.lucasoil.com/products/display_products.sd?iid=25&catid=2&loc=show). Boy is that Lucas stuff thick and slippery. The 50/50 mix is not too thick, but I wonder if it's too slippery and helping contribute to the problem.

Well, now what do any of you recommend? And I'm not looking for any, I told you to do...

Looks like it's time to go ahead and pull the lower housing out completely and do a good bench repair, rather than the one I did on my back.

Best source for the parts?

Thanks,
Will
