An old guy I know said when he was young, they'd make home-made snow-cats by taking some old truck, cutting out the body, wrapping conveyor belting around the tires, and splitting the brake system into left and right with two pedals so they could skid-steer it. He said they made several of them. I think this was in Montana somewhere. Don't know if the belting had cleats on it or they just stayed on flat snow.
