The engine type is cast into the block about halfway down on the driver's side, should say 360-1, 360-2, or 360-3. The 360-3 is the best, as that is the 360 RV Premium motor, and '79 year is the best of those 360-3 engines [according to Alan Shephard as I recall?].
The head identification numbers will be found on top of the head, under the valve cover, and the last 3 digits are the common identification method, such as '586' as the last three numbers. I just dumped my last set of 586's, cause they were cracked badly all around the valve seats, so I can't grab the numbers.
