My old Meyers was connected by a chain to the pump arm. Not a lot of horizontal force applied there. All the (considerable) horizontal force is directed against the bottom bracket.
I think a 160 amp alternator is overkill; we ran a stock unit w zero problems for 4 or 5 years, plowing mostly at night w extra lights. We did not have power angle pistons, but that just builds character. And technique; you learn to plan ahead.
