I was raised on a farm and like most farm kids I was driving tractors at an early age. The local road passed by our farm and had a particulary steep section just in front of our property. This was in the early 1970's when I was about 12 years old.

One day I was sitting on the Case tractor and a guy in one of those POS Datsun pickups
rated at about 1/20 of a ton capacity started up the hill. He had a load of lumber that was stacked about as high as his cab, extending several feet out of the back of the bed and his tires were rubbing on the inside of the wheelwells from the weight.

Everytime that he tried to go up the hill the front end of the truck would come off the ground. Well, after several failed attempts he saw me sitting on the tractor and decided that maybe I might be of help. He got out of his truck, came over, and asked me if I could pull him up the hill with the tractor.

Being 12 years old and full of myself, I just looked at him, shook my head and replied, "Why don't you just drive it up the hill backwards"

I heard him mutter something under his breath about "smart-ass kids". Then watched as he turned the Datsun around and backed it all the way up to the top of the hill.

Sometimes to this day, I still double over laughing just recalling the expression on his face.
