If you look at the cab floors, the W300 floor is much more flat, in comparison to the W100 and 200; it sits higher on the frame, as does the cab on the larger series Dodges.

The steering column hole is at a different elevation in the firewall for the same reason. Because the cab sits higher, they added what you are calling the valance, and the fenders are effectively taller, too.
