The TC drive shaft (intermediate shaft yoke) ball bearing wears faster than the others. I would replace that bearing with an NSK or some other expensive bearing and for all other bearings - your choice. Sorry guys, but owning a Toyota has convinced me to use certain bearings for specific applications.

Once it is apart, take a thin piece of steel and hold it next to the gears where the loose roller bearings ride to check for magnetized gears. If they are, have them demagnetized before reassembly.

If your truck runs 4.89 gears, make sure you have a 5 teeth speedometer gear. Although you can adjust the intermediate shaft/gear/bearings outside the TC, once you install it, double check for play in the bearings and gear. Sometimes the shaft does not seat far enough in the case.

If you replacing your bearing make sure you shock them, before you adjust them – follow your manual. The bearing shims are still available from Dodge if you need them. I think the part numbers are in the PIF.

All adjustments to bearings are made clean and dry, no oil or grease applied. Look at the position of the shift fork mechanic’s wire that locks the shift fork bolt. It’s important that you twist and place the wire in the same position when you assemble the TC, otherwise you will get some whining noise from the wire rubbing against the driven gear.

If you have dinged up shift rails from mechanics replacing seals, now is the time to replace the shift rail.

Bearing kits that include all bearings, gaskets and oil seals are available for around $265 Speedi sleeves for the yokes are about $40 each
