I concure with your viewpoint.
You once wrote an article in"sitting on the tailgate" that spoke of a fellow you knew that drove an old Ford or HI,etc. which he fed everyones used oil to, ate on the spot made sandwichs and ate fruit topping from a can. I loved that story and have many times
felt that he represented the early PW enthusiast who (from what I remember) were more your rugged homesteading in remote area types (or those that dreamed of such). It did not seem so much a hobby then as much as it seemed more a way of life for many.
The same thing happened to Harley Davidson, once it became a fad for the younger retired and middle class crowd,the price of Harleys went out of sight. like wise, PW ownership has become a fad and like any fad your gonna get your group that collects,or hobbies, and investors.Even the article written in the country farm journal referred to the PW as a tool ,an object to work with, not a investment ,collectable or showpiece. What was once simple like the pioneers of yesterday have been overtaken by the profiteers ! Every time I read the comment of profit I want to puke !
