Go for it. Just so you know what it is really like in all situations. At 55mph rpms should be at 3200 with stock tires. I find the 5:83s make it easier to drive off road especially when engine stalling could be a dangerous problem. It much harder to stall when you have 5:83s. Almost like an automatic when creeping and crawling. When decending very steep slippery grades brakes are not required. I find that I get a much better sense of control when driving off road with 5:83s. Be a purist for a thousand off road miles then you be the judge of what you prefer. There was an article in an offroad mag a few years ago, where some guys fro0m California took three FFPWs on the rubicon. One completely stock, the others modifies with 489s and powersteerring and a deisel and other non stock parts mods. The only one to have absolutely NO mechanical failure was the stock rig with 5:83s.. Have fun dodge rules.....
