I know how you feel in a way. Back in 2000 I lost my nice '70 W-200 (was featured in Monty Montgomery's Dodge Power Wagon book) It only had 27000 actual miles, I bought it from the origional owner in '99. Well, I shortly after I got it running, I gave the truck a good tune up, and it ran perfect. One day in March of '00 I went to pull it into the garage so I could rebuild the brakes to drive it in the summer. Well, when I tuned the truck up the summer before, I did not replace the 30 year old 4 inch long piece of hose that went from the fuel filter to the line going to the inlet on the carb. It looked OK when I tuned it up, so I figured it should be OK. WRONG! I was driving it and was about 20 feet from the garage when the truck died all the sudden. I then seen smoke and flames coming from under the hood, and jumped out of the truck, popped the hood open just a bit (not all the way, didnt want the rush of air to make it flame up any farther) grabbed the garden hose, and tried to put it out. Meanwhile my folks seen what was going on, and called the fire department. I had the fire out 5 min before they pulled up.... Go figure... What had happend was the piece of rubber fuel Hose burst, shot gas all over the hot engine, and up she went! I was devistated! I ended up parting the truck down, and Jerry Turben from Kalamazoo bought the remains of it after. I miss that truck.
