I didn't have too much trouble getting the two parts apart on mine, but the mating surfaces were quite uneven. The local machinist said he couldn't grind those surfaces because they were below what was next to them. I didn't want to buy new manifolds, so I dressed the surfaces slightly with a file, then assembled them using black asbestos furnace cement on both sides of the gasket. Seems to be holding up okay.

By the way, before getting the block faces of a two-part manifold ground, you should loosely assemble the two parts together (with gasket and cement in place), then temporarily bolt attach the combined manifold to the block, using gaskets but no gasket sealer, and torquing down the nuts per spec, then torque down the three bolts that hold the manifold halfs together, and then remove the combined manifold from the block and have it machined as one unit. If you machine them separately, there's a good chance of cracking the manifold when you torque it onto the block.
