I tend to think you're right. I wish I could remember who told it to me -- he was a MV collector and sounded sure of it, but it seemed pretty wild to me. The practical problem I see (aside from hooking it all up) is that there is no way to get the whole "train" of engines to equalize their power output, so even if you did connect them mechanically and set all the governors to pretty close to the same speed, a couple of engines would end up doing all the work and the rest would just loaf along.

Lots of people see that "blank" flange and tell me it's a PTO. I wish it was! I guess it could be if APB made locking hubs for the rear and I unlocked them all!
